Primal Instincts

A new day is dawnin' and here I sit, the fog in my brain not allowin' me to find my startin' point. Maybe I better go fire up the coffee pot. While I do that, you can take a peek at the award I received from Mack and Mia, 2 labs from Maryland that also like to cause trouble have fun. I'm supposed to pass it on to 12 friends but after this winter, I think anybody that wants a piece of this sunshine is more than welcome to grab it and share as you see fit. Thanks Mack and Mia, it truly brightened my day!

Just a few more minutes and the coffee will be done. Until then, I'll share with you a note that I got from Julia who is the Pet Blog editor and co-writer for the Responsible Pet Ownership blog, sponsored by CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods. She told me this blog's purpose is to educate pet owners on all aspects of pet care, with new articles posted daily. I sniffed around a little bit and I liked what I saw. Run on over there when you get a chance and do a little sniffin' of your own and see what you think. But don't run off right now, you can find it on my blog roll later, right now the caffeine is startin' to kick in.
Aaaahhhh...........that's more like it. Sorry to keep you waitin' but that's how it's been for me lately when I sit down to a new post. I stare blankly at the screen and sometimes I swear it's sittin' there laugin' at me, tauntin' me because I cannot seem to find the right words to cover it's nakedness. What's my problem, you ask? The possibilities are numerous but I think a severe case of Spring fever might be the main culprit. The warmer and longer days stirs my inner being and brings out urges that could only be from my ancestors who never knew domestication.

First and foremost, most of you who have frequented my blog know by now that I take my job of Homeland Security very seriously. There's not a minute that goes by that I am not thinkin' of new techniques to hunt down my nemesis, Mr. Groundhog and his offspring. When my lifetime tally hit 63 at the end of last season, I thought maybe I could take a year off, ease up a bit and relax. After a little scoutin' around, I see that rest and relaxation is not in my near future, maybe never the way these rodents reproduce. The fields surroundin' my humble estate are littered with new groundhog residences, of which two are already vacant due to my prowess. The thought of them takin' over drives me wild and now has me wonderin' if I will hit the monumental mark of 100 by the end of 2010. If I intend to reach this goal, I may have to work overtime.

Speakin' of wild, if you didn't stop over at Life With Dogs last Thursday and Friday, you really missed out. Nigel Buggers, the most notorious hound around, displayed his wild side on Thursday's post while Sola and my fiancee, Ms. Truffles, showed their wild sides on Friday. It's well worth the trip and don't worry, they won't charge you an admission fee, although Buggers will more than likely try to talk you into a donation to The Kitteh Fund. Just tell him Chester's got you covered.

Anyway, this of course got me to thinkin' "Just what wild animal out there do I resemble?" I decided to get Mom's opinion but for the life of me, I don't know why I'd take any stock in what she has to say.

Chester : Hey Mom, did ya see Nigel, Sola and Ms. Truffles last week and how they really looked like they had just stepped straight out of the Wild Kingdom?

Chester's Mom: I did and it was amazing! In fact it was almost surreal, especially Ms. Truffles in her bear outfit. I always knew she was a loveable teddy bear, but not that kind of bear.

Chester: I know, it almost scared me when I first saw her but she only fooled me for a second or two before my nose kicked in and I smelled the cat crunchies on her breath. She knows I go weak in the knees when I smell that. Anyway, what wild animal would you associate me with, Mom?

Chester's Mom: Well, my first guess might have been a bear but the more I think about it, your personality leads me another direction. Personality traits of the animal I'm thinking of are: independence, confidence and fearlessness. This animal is also known to be active, social and playful, much like you. Your curiosity and your inventiveness at finding new ways of getting into trouble are also a trait that you share. The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that you would find yourself at home in a family of chimpanzees.

Chester: Ok, I think you may have a valid point. Let me try it on for size.

Not too bad a fit other than the length of my snooter. Hey look! I even have opposable thumbs-sumpthin' I've always dreamed of! I can already see this is gonna open up a whole new world for me. Such as:

Two of my favorite snacks at the same time!

A cat crunchy doughnut will taste even better with a tall glass of cold milk.
(Just try and get your bear claws on this Ms. Truffles!)

I've often wondered if I was musically inclined, now at least I can try.

Who knows, maybe I will even succeed in gettin' to drive Mom's ride.

With thumbs, the possibilities are now endless as to the things I wanna try. I'm sorry if I've strayed from my original destination but that brings me to my point: I've been tryin' to stick to a blog postin' schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but with everything that's goin' on I'm throwin' my schedule outta the window. For the time bein', I'm not gonna have a schedule. As I have sumpthin' to say, I'll post it whenever the mood strikes. Who knows, I may even go Wordless on Tuesday or Thursday instead of Wednesday!!! Could that be the inventiveness and independance of my primate cousins showin'?  Possibly.

Well, that's more than enough to absorb on a Monday.
As the new work week kicks in, it's up to you to decide ~
will you be driven to succeed, or will it be monkey business as usual?
Chester ;0=)

Chester, where to start? For one, Truffles is now out of her bear costume since she realized it's netting her fewer treats. Everyone has been running away!
I actually think this monkey business suits you. I was getting all serious and excited while I was reading this. I didn't see the primate transformation coming a mile away. Maybe you should have sent me a...thumbnail! ;)

Be careful with that opposable thumb business, Chester, Mom read the other day that someone trained a chimp to do their housework, dishes, dusting, hoovering, the whole deal. Not something I would want to spend my days doing or think of you doing!

Kisses,
Stella
